Like the flood-ravished community he represents, Outback Fighter, has done himself proud in his first race start, with a creditable third. In difficult wet and foggy conditions Outback Fighter started well before settling just off the speed in fifth position. Coming to the corner Fighter, being very new to racing, lost his way a little but balanced up in the straight to hit the line powerfully to just miss second place in a photo finish. On the eve of the first flood anniversary, local thoroughbred horse stud Clear Mountain Fairview has organised a country music concert to perform in Greenmount on Saturday January 7, 2012 to help raise funds for their community hall which was heavily affected by the tragic event. The devastating flood in January 2011 has left part of the Memorial Hall and its surrounds with structural damage and the repair costs are in the vicinity of $100,000. Clear Mountain Fairview stud principal Bob Frappell called on an 'old mate', former race horse trainer and 2012 Golden Guitar Award Nominee Rod Williams, to perform and enable the local hall committee to raise funds to kick start the repairs. "The Greenmount Memorial Hall is an important piece of our local community," stud principal Bob Frappell said. "To lose such a beautiful and historic building would be a major upset for the small township. "The horrific floods affected everyone in the community and as we remember one year on, the hard work is far from over, with the next priority restoring the Greenmount Memorial Hall."

The usual raucous party that greeted the return to scales of yet another Lansdown Stable-owned galloper on Sunday, maiden winner Mordi, was probably even more vocal this time given the sentimental ties with his better-known stablemate Dictator. It is no coincidence the two bay gallopers are dead-set ring-ins either. Mordi, who is named after the Stable manager Donna Lansdown's hometown of Mordialloc in Victoria, Australia, was purchased by virtue of his sire being the same as Dictator's - Tycoon Ruler.
